Arthritis Treatment

Joint Pain

Arthritis refers to inflammation of the joints. At Dr. Sayyed, an arthritis treatment center in Burr Ridge, La Grange, Hinsdale, Chicago, we get patients with arthritis seeking comfort and alleviation of pain several times a week. The truth is that for most types of arthritis, there’s no definitive cure. Arthritis treatment is symptomatic and aimed at controlling flares of the disease.

Unfortunately, once damage to the bones or joints starts happening, there’s not much that can be done to restore them to their original state. Western medicine has come a long way, and if a disease is caught and treated early, almost all damage can be avoided. Sadly, that’s not always the case. At Dr. Sayyed, we can help you control your disease and pain.

Types of Arthritis

Arthritis is a very broad term. When someone is diagnosed with arthritis, the diagnosis is usually more specific. There are many different types like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus arthritis, and septic arthritis, to name a few.

Osteoarthritis is the most common form and usually affects people over 60. As we age, our cartilage starts to wear off. This leads to bones in a joint coming in contact with each other leading to pain. It’s very rare for osteoarthritis to develop in a young person unless they experienced severe trauma to the joint.

Rheumatoid and lupus arthritis are autoimmune diseases. They develop in middle age. In these conditions, the body starts forming antibodies that attack the joints causing damage and pain. Septic arthritis is what happens when a joint becomes infected, like following trauma or the insertion of a needle into the joint.

Treatment of Arthritis

The treatment of arthritis is often performed by a rheumatologist for autoimmune types and an orthopedic surgeon for osteoarthritis. At Dr. Sayyed, we can help provide you with exercises and things to do that will enable you to move freely with as little pain as possible.

Additionally, we can attempt acupuncture to relieve pain. Results may not be noticeable all at once, but you should notice a gradual improvement over time. Don’t let arthritis keep you from doing the things you love. Together we can find a way to beat it.
