Nutrition & Wellness

Nutritional Cooking

We hear things like “you are what you eat” and “your body is a temple” all the time. Despite how old these phrases are; they stand true to a major extent. Nutrition is where we get all our minerals and important vitamins, which are essential for survival. At Dr. Sayyed, Burr Ridge, La Grange, Hinsdale, Chicago, we can’t recommend healthy nutrition enough.

Nutritional sciences, which we practice here at Dr. Sayyed, also study how food is broken down and catabolized by the body and then used for building cells and tissue.

Recommended Sources of Nutrition

Generally, fruits and vegetables are the best sources of nutrition. They can provide you with the minerals and vitamins you need to maintain a healthy body. Many of them are also rich in fibers, which help prevent constipation and maintain healthy intestines.

Protein is recommended, but not in excess. You need protein for building new tissue. Patients who undergo surgery should make sure they’re getting enough protein in their diets, or else their bodies won’t be able to heal properly.

Carbs are great sources of energy but can lead to weight gain if consumed in excess. Many diets right now like the keto diet eliminate carbs. The keto diet relies mostly on the consumption of protein and fat. Most of those who tried it have achieved great weight loss results.

What to Avoid

Foods that are rich in cholesterol are best avoided as much as possible. Things like omega oils are unsaturated fats, so they’re beneficial rather than harmful. On the other hand, saturated fats can lead to several complications.

These include atherosclerosis, hypertension, diabetes, and coronary artery disease. If you suffer from any of these, you’ve probably heard about how you should avoid saturated fats before.

At Lau Medical, we can give you the nutritional advice you need for wellness. Knowing what to eat and what to avoid can be complicated based on what you’re trying to achieve. Those who are trying to gain weight will receive different recommendations from those trying to lose it.

We can also help patients after surgery with what they need to eat for proper healing and recovery. Just call our office, and we’ll be glad to help.
